Folding Smartphones: One Last Dance?A friend from China sent me a photo of the latest folding smartphone, the Vivo X Fold. Having been in the business for the past several years, I can pretty safely say smartphones have become somewhat commoditised like PC’s before them. However, the emergence of new form factors starting really with the Samsung Galaxy Fold as breathed some new life into things. Will it bring back the rampant innovation in cameras, battery life and software we’ve seen this past decade? No.
But it at least keeps thing interesting until the smartphone killer duly arrives in whatever shape or form that it.
Musk-TwitterI think like most people, Elon Musk is a hell of entrepreneur but also like most people, he tends to stretch himself helluva thin. Can’t be easy running a bleeding edge car company, a one of a kind rocket outfit and of course all the other stuff he’s invested into. Then comes Twitter. I feel in this case there’s a genuine desire on his part to improve arguably the world’s most loved yet least viable (business wise) social network. The problem with this is multifaceted, from the core Twitter product issues to the vested interests from just about everyone. Ben Thompson explains it just about better than anyone could so I’ll let you read his thorough take.Back to the Future of Twitter
Proving the Experts WrongGary Tan, the ex Y-Combinator VC and backer of several prominent web3 companies including Coinbase, is back with another great video on his YouTube channel.
I think this video is particularly poignant where we’re a a new stage of the world post-covid, one where there’s only a handful of massive incumbents in tech at least and a fairly stagnant hardware scene.
The question he raises is that people will always tell you you’re wrong, and at the end of the day, you have to push through it anyway.
