🔥 Fired up about tech, marketing and media

Review Units: 3 months laterI took a stab at reflecting on the Review Units survey and experiment with a blog post, bearing mind in mind this is just my sample set. Some takeaways:
1) Creators starting to vastly outnumber journalists2) Samsung is back on top in terms of consumer electronics brands people want (to review)3) Videos now the medium of choice vs long-form text/articles4) Asia has long been the home of consumer electronics brands, now it’s increasingly home to content too

YouTube on the decline? It’s clear YouTube and the other big social networks are feeling the heat from TikTok.
Doesn’t take an expert to work out that with social, the money follows the eyeballs, and the traditional long-form video platforms namely YouTube but also Meta’s Facebook and Instagram.
Everyone knows MKBHD is (rightly) the largest Tech YouTuber and even he is not immune to the stagnation of traditional online video and like/dislike based algorithmic signalling in the face of TikTok’s AI recommendation machine.
YouTube Shorts and Instagram Reels are indicative of the fact that they know this but whether or not they can stem the tide remains to be seen.
WWDCApple’s WWDC developer conference is back this year with a small in person audience we’re led to believe. Everyone’s expecting a new MacBook Air with the same Apple M1 chip that powers last year’s updated MacBook Pro line.
Top Apple commentator Mark Gurman also says iPadOS will get a revamp so could be a busy if not hugely groundbreaking event.
Also, was nice to see Apple revive the classic iPod ads with Harry Styles. Reminded me of the Jobs era Apple where people actually sat up and took notice of their marketing..
