Staying Humble

Hubspot co-founder Dharmesh Shah
I just want to share a thought today on a topic that I think it’s quite important this era of uncertainty: staying humble.
Last week, HubSpot held their annual conference called Inbound, you can watch the presentation videos on their YouTube channel. Particularly recommend co-founder Dharmesh Shah’s here.
It’s a great presentation, particularly on the ways in which AI is changing marketing. I won’t spoil it but you get the gist. Normally I’m a lurker not a commenter on YouTube but left a comment in respect to one of the great marketing software leaders of our age.

Within 24 hours, Dharmesh replied. The fact the co-founder of a $27 billion dollar market cap company took time to reply to my comment is touching. It got me thinking, why don’t we see more of this?
Likewise, Flexport founder Ryan Peterson has been in the news recently having returned to this company following the resignation of the previous CEO former Amazon VP Dave Clark.
Peterson is getting flak for rescinding employee offers and has been on X dealing with the fall back. Once again, he took the time to reply to my comment:

I think this is really an excellent opportunity in an age of AI where the written word will largely be produced be machines. Whatever you want to call it, the personal touch, being kind, open etc etc, having the ability to take time and humbly respond to anyone is a true gift.
What leaders do you like in this regard? Share your thoughts with me on X @alexmacgregor_H
